According to the Bank of Portugal, Portuguese financial institutions’ issuance of mortgages reached a total of €93.998 billion in September, an increase of 0.23% m-o-m and 1.01% since September 2019. The figure is the highest total since April 2017. The amount of loans in arrears held steady in September at 0.7%, equal to the figure in August and down from 1.1% last year.
The Portuguese central bank added that the stock of loans to corporate entities reached 72.165 billion euros in September, compared to €71.731 billion euros in August and €69.118 billion in September 2019. Non-performing loans to businesses accounted for 4.0% of total loans, unchanged from August and below 6.4% in September 2019.
